SHIBUYA - TOKYU FOOD SHOW

Sugar overload !!

These apples were as big as rockmelons.

My selection - yummalicious.

Excessive packaging - the box inclued an ice pack.
Such stylish counter displays.

It wouldn't be Japan without a cute bear cake or two.

The Tokyu Food Show is loacted in the Tokyu Department Store basement, otherwise known as a "depachika". It can also be accessed from the Shibuya train station. As it was next door to our hotel, it was a very convenient place to purchase food. One section is like a supermarket, but it seemed to sell mainly gormet food. The other section is a massive basement filled with food stalls selling any sort of food you could imagine. There was everything: sushi, bento boxes, vegetable dishes, Chinese, Thai, bakeries and lots of French pattiseries. The cakes were a sight to behold. All the stalls were so beautifully arranged. The Japanese definitely place a strong emphasis on visual appearances and presentation which I love. I would come to Tokyo just to eat from this store. For our first dinner in Tokyo we bought a little bit of everything and took it back to our hotel to eat. Every night we ate in our room, we also enjoyed hilarious Japanese game shows on TV. Have a look at these pics and drool.

SHIBUYA - MISCELLANEOUS PICS

So many fantastic shops, so little time. One could wander the streets of Shibuya all day, exploring the little alley ways. Lots of interesting fashion, shoe and accessory stores to browse.
Today was a wonderful introduction to Tokyo and Shibuya had much to impress.

DISNEY STORE - SHIBUYA

The Japanese seem to love Disney characters. The Shibuya branch is located on Koen Dori. Of course, it's very cute inside with a spiral staircase connecting the floors. I purchased a couple of Minnie Mouse items for my niece. Credit cards are accepted.

MARUNAN FABRIC STORE - SHIBUYA

Marunan is a lovely little fabric store, almost next door to our hotel - very convenient ! It seems to be a family run business, and the service is excellent. I think it had 5 floors. I purchased some traditional Japanese fabrics, chirimen and character prints. All the fabric is displayed in samples, and you simply take each sample to the counter and a salesperson fetches the heavy bolts and cuts them for you. Now that's service. It is located on Doganzaka in Shibuya, next door to Lush and just before you reach 109. Credit cards are accepted.

MRS USAGI - My latest Chirimen creation

I made this chirimen rabbit for my best friend's birthday. I'm pleased with the result. Chirimen craft is one of my favourite crafts. Needless to say, I purchased alot of chirimen fabric on my recent trip to Tokyo, which I will be blogging about soon.
