OKADAYA - SHINJUKU

You can see the Okadaya sign in red letters to the left of Studio Alta

We spent today in Shinjuku, which is famous for its department stores and neon signs. I think Shinjuku station is the largest in the world (?) Well, it is huge. If you are exiting Shinjuku station, be sure to find out which exit you need to take prior to travelling, as there are many exits. I discovered many good craft stores in this city.

The first store I visited was Okadaya. http://www.okadaya.co.jp/ To find it, take the east exit at the station, and you will be able to see a big Studio Alta sign. Head towards it, and Okadaya is on the street to the left, perhaps only 3 minutes from the station.

It consists of 2 stores next door to each other. The 1st store sells craft supplies and the second sells fabrics. I purchased some lovely fabrics - there was a whole floor of Japanese prints and chirimen. I also bought a cute Hina rabbit bead kit, some fabric labels, appliques and Japanese cords for the bags I make. There was also a whole floor of craft books and magazines. I bought some chirimen and bag making books, which I will show later. Definietly visit this store if you love crafts. Credit cards are accepted.

  1. I love all the chirimen fabric in this post and your last post. I wish chirimen was more readily available in the UK, I love it so much! Fabrictales is great but it would be nice to be able to go into a shop and actually see it when choosing it.

  2. I can't buy chirimen in Australia either. It was wonderful to be able to see all the fabrics and choose them at leisure. And, it's so much cheaper than buying on the internet.
